REPCO BEACH HOP 21 TOP FIVE

- WORDS: MARCUS GIBSON PHOTOS: ADAM P PHOTOGRAPHER, RIXSTA PHOTOGRPAHY

For most car owners, winning an event like Repco Beach Hop is a damn big deal. It’s not like other car shows that typically have a panel of judges rating cars based off a list of fixed criteria. This event is different because it’s all decided by public vote. Each year thousands upon thousands of votes are collected on the prize-draw entry forms, tallied, and this gives us the top five in People’s Choice. To even make it to this stage is something very special, but then another two-hour voting process takes place, with gold coin contributions by the public, which are later donated to the Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club. It’s a fastpaced second voting process after what’s been a long four days, but that’s not to detract from those on show, or who is eventually crowned the winner. This year, that honor went to our very own Todd Wylie and wife Kym with their ‘56 Caddy.
