WINNING JOURNEY

-

The journey of Group 1A winner Craig Boote to CMC title holder wasn’t a smooth one at all. Craig’s season almost looked to be over from the outset when in race three of round one his car was involved in a massive accident, forcing him to miss race four and only narrowly make it to round two. Full credit must go to the hard-working team at Moselle Panel & Paint for making sure that Boote’s season could carry on largely unimpeded. Round two saw him take a fifth, a third, a fifth, and an 11th place — hardly championship-winning results. Round three followed with more of the same: a sixth, a seventh, a ninth, and a fifth — showing that the car and driver combo had potential but needed to have some really good luck to get consistent placings at the pointy end. Come round four, it all started to fall into place for Craig, with two fourths, a first, and a second giving him a decent points haul and showing the massive pace this car and driver combo has. This consistency put Craig in good stead for the semifinal round of the series, in which again he was consistent, coming home fifth, fourth, fourth, and sixth. By this stage, he was in good standing for the final round, but, as we know, anything can happen in the blink of an eye when you’re packing 900hp among a field of equally talented drivers. When it came to the final race of the six-round series, a sixth, an eighth, and a seventh saw the points closer than anyone could have imagined. While the race ended under the slow pace of a safety car — not quite the finish everyone had hoped for — it did see Craig cross the line in third place, which was enough to give him the outright win.
