NEW MUSEUM COMING
After many years of having the desire to open a car museum, that dream is finally coming true for Wellingtonian Paul Boden and family. Extensive planning and preparation have been taking place behind the scenes for the last few years, and the Resource Consent Application is currently sitting with Upper Hutt City Council for approval.
Cars Inc, as the museum will be called, is set to be situated next door to the old General Motors assembly plant in Trentham, Upper Hutt. Included in the design for the 2200m2 building is a fully functioning café, as well as potential for a function centre. This will provide the greater Wellington region and its visitors with the perfect destination to visit and enjoy mobile pieces of art, as well as a unique space for the local community to utilise for meetings and events.
On display will be a wide range of special interest vehicles, including hot rods, muscle cars, modern classics, circuit cars, drag cars and motorbikes, as well as a plethora of automotive memorabilia from different eras.
Of course, this is no small undertaking. Paul himself - who often features in our CMC coverage – has always been passionate about cars and has a modest collection of his own, however, it’s not enough to fill the space in the museum. They will be calling for expressions of interest in due course, so if you have a special vehicle (or vehicles), memorabilia, or anything else that you think others would be interested in seeing on display, keep an eye out for the call.
