BOOSTED ’64

-

Glen Eggleton is no stranger to building insane cars, and you may recall his blown ’71 Chevelle from NZV8 Issue 189, which was a prime example of his skills. But what’s patiently waiting in storage is his ’64 Chev Impala, which is just waiting for a new shed to be built so he can move it home and finish off what he started. It’s clear that it’s shaping up to be something pretty serious, and we are eagerly anticipating its completion. Before putting it into storage, the car’s interior was completely gutted and every screw, badge, moulding, seats, glass —the works — was replaced for new. The car’s exterior body panels were in reasonable nick, with only minor body repairs done, and it was then stripped back to bare metal, primed, and painted with a fresh coat of Silver Pearl ready for a new engine transplant. In terms of the engine, it’s currently running twin Aeroflow 6862 turbos with 44mm wastegates that feed a 372ci Dart block, and taking orders from a Holley ECU and dash package. Glen says that he wanted to keep the real driver in him alive and opted to swap cogs over auto, so a Tremec T56 was bolted on and also matched up with a built and narrowed 9-inch differential. With this set-up, Glen hopes to see it clock over four digits on the dyno, so braking power was a priority, which has seen a Wilwood front and rear brake set take charge. Once out of storage and in its new home, new wheels are on the list to help finish off the car — Glen is looking at a set of Weld 15 x 12-inch rears matched up with 17-inch front runners, or possibly a set of billet Schotts, but is unsure as of yet. We know whatever Glen picks, it will definitely make rather than break the car, as his styling over the years with other cars hasn’t been anything short of amazing.
