WHERE TO STAY

The romantic and private Taj Lake Palace in the middle of Lake Pichola is hard to beat. If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, book a room at the Chunda Palace or The Oberoi Udaivilas.

WHERE TO EAT

Try Sheesh Mahal restaurant for local flavour with lake views, and The Sunset Terrace for sundowners. If you need a break from Indian cuisine, grab a toastie and juice from Grasswood Café.

WHAT TO DO

Putter around Lake Pichola in a timber boat at dusk or dawn – it’s the best time to take photos, as everything is lit up with a soft, golden glow. Visit the stunning City Palace for 360-degree views of Udaipur, then walk down to Bada Bazaar to stock up on jewellery, textiles, camel-leather goods and souvenirs.

GOOD TO KNOW

You cannot visit the Taj Lake Palace unless you’re a guest – but once you are, you’ll never want to leave! Sit by the pool under the bougainvilleas, wander the marble-lined hallways or practise yoga on the gorgeous terrace.
