Blackheath TT Revisited

-

is the first issue I’ve ever read and it won’t be the last. As my family lived in and around Leura for many years, the Blackheath TT article caught my attention. I wondered straight away whether any of my family would recall the TT being held. I was pleasantly surprised to find my father Maurice Jones as a spectator in the photo of Harry Hinton rounding Govetts corner. Dad is standing 2nd from the far right holding a box brownie camera which I still have in my study. Sadly we don’t have the photo’s he took. Dad also enjoyed competing in some amateur racing in a motor bike club in the Katoomba district. He was 17 years old at the time of the TT photo and rode a 1930 350 Ariel. His father Reg rode a 1928 Douglas but alas nobody knows what happened to either machine. A year later dad was serving in New Guinea and later in Borneo. After his return home he used a Triumph with a sidebox in his sign writing business around the Blue Mountains district. The photo shows dad and his brother John on the Ariel.
