2014 Star Insurance Classic Bike Show

- Report and photos Graham Viall

25-26 January, 2014 – Manukau City, NZ

Being 18 months since the Papakura Rotary Club held their first show, the timing of this one was truly an unknown. Auckland Anniversary is a very busy weekend in Auckland yet the show still managed to attract some 260 bikes and 2,500 visitors. A much more even spread of machines with greatly increased numbers from Europe and Japan certainly offered something for everyone. Several collectors offered what were simply remarkable machines to give a depth of bikes unlikely to have been seen before in New Zealand. Visitors were treated to a Hesketh V1000, Munch Mammoth, Moto Guzzi Falcone, Indian Board Tracker, BMW R5, Ducati 750SS Imola and a NCR Racer to name a few, all in one place. Most of these bikes are real Rarities and to have them all together was certainly very special. Possibly the first time shown in NZ was a spectacular 1917 Henderson Four which must have had thousands of photos taken of it. It is impossible not to stop and stare at its sheer beauty and contemplate the feeling of actually riding such a machine through New Orleans in 1917! Wouldn’t that be something! This bike clearly won the Veteran category while Keith Trillo’s spectacular 1926
