Old Bike Australasia

Big Ajay

I read with interest the article on a tale of two cities, OBA 43. I loved the double page photo of Ces Weatherby on his AJS. The reason I am contacting you is I own a M2 AJS 1929. I have owned this bike for about 18 years and it came to me in pieces. Due to many other projects I had delayed the restoration but last year finally completed my ‘Dry Build’ and had the motor rebuilt, I now have the bike running and it is complete, but it needs a run to sort out final adjustments. Then another pull down to paint and nickel.

This bike (right) was found in Goulburn, in pieces, which is on the Melbourne to Sydney highway. I have previously tried to research Ces Weatherby and his life during which I found that a Ces Weatherby married a local girl from the town of Gunning. This all added up to me and I am trying to locate information on what was the engine number of this record setting bike. My bike has matching numbers on the frame, gearbox and engine 50035. So I guess what I am looking for is there any records of who imported this bike and was it the one used for this race? I would be interested on any information that you may be aware of or contacts, I only know of four, other M2 AJS through my contacts. Jeremy Knight Wollongong Email: karlyn21@hotmail.com
