Lakeside hits top gear

-

(now called Lakeside Park) has cleared its final hurdle in the lead up to the staging of the 2014 Australian Historic Racing Championships from 25th-28th September. Gene Lopeman, from the Queensland Early Motorcycle Sports Club says, “Motorcycling Australia have agreed to all the changes that need to be made to make the track comply (to be licenced for motorcycle racing). The works program to perform the work has been put in place and work has already started. The old Armco fence on the right (inside) of the back ‘straight’ is being removed and a new barrier erected two metres back from the track edge. The bitumen for the new entry to the ‘Bus Stop’ chicane is scheduled for the end of March. The rest of the changes are minor but are all in hand.” A bumper entry is expected for the event with riders from all over Australia and from New Zealand keen to experience the fast and flowing track which should be ideal for the older bikes. As well as the races, numerous displays will be held, including an on-track parade of significant former race bikes with some prominent riders.
