A century of racing in Bathurst
A special function to be held in November, 2014 will celebrate one hundred years since the running of the Australian Grand Prix for motorcycles. The race was held over a fairly rugged 60-kilometre per lap road circuit in the Kirkconnell-Yetholme area and won by Edgar Meller riding a Douglas. The Australian Douglas Owners Club are planning their own celebration, and will be staging their National Rally in conjunction with the GP event which will run from 5-7 November. On Saturday November 8th, a function to mark the GP will be held on part of the original track in the forest at Kirkconnell. The rally base will be at the caravan park, with a special time trial around the Old Vale circuit on Friday morning and a display of bikes in Kings Parade that evening. The event will be supported by the Historic Car Club and Bathurst East Rotary Club. A mayoral function will be held on Thursday evening at the Museum and a celebration dinner on Saturday evening.
