SA All British Day

- Report Colin Behn Photos Brian Kerschner and Colin Behn

9 February, 2014 – Recreation Ground, Echunga SA

As South Australia sweltered through another record-hot summer, British motor vehicles gathered in the Adelaide Hills. Finally we got in and lined up as required by Brian Forth. What a selection of bikes we had; 1927 Norton 16H, Autobyke, a number of AJS, a couple of BSA, Nortons, Scott Flying Squirrels, Triumphs including a T150 Triple as new, Matchless G80s, race replica AJS and Vincent HRD Rapide to name a few. We were surrounded by Rolls Royces and a very nice Jaguar which showed photos of how it was before restoration so we were in good company.

The two ovals were packed with vehicles of all ages from Army Land Rovers, imitation Minis (BMW) as well as genuine Minis, Fire Trucks, Vans, Utes, Sports Cars, Stationary Engines and a gas-powered Wacker that was fired up every now and again, as well as Aviation Museum’s Rolls Royce Merlin Aero Engine which was started a few times. There was a Punch and Judy Show and a Mini Farm Yard for the Kids as well other stalls to suit all tastes from jewelry, books, clothes and spare car parts and food stalls. Triumph Riders Club had mostly Modern Bikes with 1996 as oldest. BSA Owners Club had a good array and Norton had mostly 1970s Commandos. Velocette Motorcycle Club had a display for the first time of five bikes. The two Gazebos on our site were well used all day and magazines on tables appeared to be well received and I believe we gained at least one new member.

To win again the Best Motorcycle Display Trophy is a credit to all the members who attended and the array of machines presented. One of our members also won the Peoples Choice for his Velocette even if it was parked in the Velo Display. Many thanks to the 2 Brians and others for the top class display set up.
