A good night for Harleys
A packed hall at the Shannons 2014 Late Autumn Classic Auction saw enthusiastic bidding for a tasty range of motorcycles, ranging from a number of lightweight Italian machines to big Brits and some rare early Harley-Davidsons. Amongst the Latin lovelies, a 1961 MV Agusta 175cc went for $7,700 and a 1965 250cc Mondial for $6,000. A pristine 1958 DB32 BSA Gold Star brought $20,000 and a rare 1956 HS500 Ariel $14,000, but the biggest money was reserved for a pair of unrestored and very original Harleys. The chain-driven 575cc 9B, a 1913 model (right), fetched $25,000, while a 1918 18S 500 and sidecar (below) went for the same amount. The next Shannons Sydney auction is on August 25th, with more rare Harleys, Vincents and small Italian bikes.
