It appears that as many enthusiasts get further and deeper involved in the motorcycle scene that they take it yet one further step and establish their own museum. Mostly machines on display are from a large cross section of various makes from different countries. However one different approach has been taken by Darryl White, who on the 15th March this year opened a museum at 419 Newman Rd, Geebung, Brisbane for Indian motorcycles only. Darryl commenced work on the museum site in November 2013. His passion for the Indian machines is reflected in the creative ideas that have been implemented into the design and layout of the premises. There are a number of murals of various sizes and scenes showing these machines. During my visit I spoke briefly with Eric Henn, a well renowned painter of large murals in USA which included work undertaken for Pepsi Cola and other multinationals. Darryl had him come out to undertake this work at his museum and the results certainly made it worthwhile. Darryl has made several trips to USA chasing machines, parts and memorabilia. His memorabilia on display is regarded as one of the best and largest relating to the Indian machines in the world. To celebrate the opening of this museum there were a number riders on Indian machines who departed from Melbourne with some additional enthusiasts joining them at various stages along the way. There were 17 riders that arrived from this journey taking about 3 or 4 days each way with well known Victorian identity Lindsay Urquhart driving a backup vehicle. They included two Americans, John Steelman on a 1951 Chief and Larry Lewis on a 1947 Chief, a former Alabama Police machine. The museum is only open of a weekend from 9.00am to 4.00pm on Saturday and 9.00am to 2.00pm on Sunday. Admission is $15 for adults and children free.
