Century for Maryborough

-

The Maryborough Motor Cyclists Club in Queensland will be 100 years old in September 2015. It was also one of the clubs that founded the ACU of Qld in 1924. Mildred Goldsmith has a gold medallion (above right) won by her father A. Lambert for the 100 Miles Road Trial in April 1916. It was made by local jeweller T.J. Gillespie whose grandson still runs the business. Club members have had a fair bit of success with Clarrie Stewart winning the Australian 350cc Scrambles Championship in 1957 and many dirt track, hill climb and road racing titles. The club has had about five dirt tracks over the years and in the late ‘60s founded our current track, Action Park, one of the fastest tracks in the country.
