More on the Plummer V4

-

I read with interest the article on the twinengined Triumph in OBA 44 page 71. However, for your readers I would like to give a more factual history of the bike. My father, William Plummer built the bike and in particular the engine/s from scratch at the family business, Plummer Motorcycles Napier, NZ. He completed it in 1961, after which Gordon Skilton purchased it. As time proved, the final drive chains could not handle the torque and power of the twin Triumphs, so the following year Gordon with the help of William fitted a geared final drive system. The gearbox is from an AJS 7R. Gordon finally sold the bike back to William and in 1965 dad sold it to Arthur Harris. He took the bike to the UK where it was left in the showroom/workshop of Bob Foster in Dorsett, UK in 1966. It has not been heard of since. The photos in your current issue were taken by me in 1965 at the back of Plummer Motorcycles Napier. The gentleman behind the bike is in fact my father, William. Vic Plummer Via email
