Fifty-up for Phoenix
March 22 was a night of nights at the Hungarian Club Norwood in SA celebrating the Phoenix Motorcycle Club 50 year reunion dinner. Well over 100 attended with a number from interstate attending the event. The night also included many members from the club’s “Tavistock Street” era (which was prior to 1964 incorporation) through to current racers and members. Much has changed for the club since the early days at Tavistock Street in the early 1960s; from being the outlaws on the road to becoming a successful road racing club and promoter. Notable members over the years include such as Ken Blake, Bill Horsman, Greg Pretty, Glen Richards, Gavin Porteous, Jeremy Burgess, Arthur Sissis, Daniel Falzon and so many more. The club also successfully ran the ASBK for Shell for a number of years at Mallala and was awarded the best round trophy on a several occasions. It was a night to remember for many, renewing friendships from decades past. The noise, chatter and laughter lasted late into the night, except when Jeremy Burgess took to the stage and provided an insight into his life on the Moto GP circuit. The next day completed a full weekend of motorcycling with the 3rd running of the annual Adelaide International (AIR) Reunion at Hayward Park at Unley. Over 40 attended the event open to anyone involved with the old race circuit prior to its closure in 1988. A free BBQ was put on by the Phoenix Club.
