Cel­e­brat­ing Con­ti­nen­tal Clas­sics

In­spired by our re­cent spe­cial is­sue, go-ahead cus­tom bike builders MID LIFE CY­CLES in Rich­mond, Vic­to­ria re­cently held their own Con­ti­nen­tal Clas­sic Day on July 5th, fea­tur­ing great Ital­ian, Ger­man, Span­ish and Bri­tish mar­ques. Mid Life’s Michael Catch­pole says, “The theme of the day was prompted by the Old Bikes Aus­trala­sia spe­cial is­sue Con­ti­nen­tal Clas­sics and re­cent restora­tion work by Mid Life Cy­cles on a range of bikes, in­clud­ing two Du­cati 900SS bevel twins, a Mon­tesa 360 and sev­eral clas­sic BMWs in stan­dard and café racer style. The turn-out in­cluded Paul Hutchi­son’s BMW K100 café racer in hot orange, Trevor Lock’s Moto Morini 3½ Sport, a brace of well-mod­i­fied Du­cati Sport-Clas­sics and Mid Life Cy­cle’s own beau­ti­ful and orig­i­nal Du­cati Mike Hail­wood Replica and a Du­cati Pan­tah-based Spe­cial. Bri­tish bikes were well-rep­re­sented, with a 1950 Match­less G80S, a pair of Nor­ton Com­man­dos, a BSA Six­ties desert racer near­ing com­ple­tion in the Mid Life Cy­cles work­shop, and sev­eral clas­sic and mod­ern Tri­umphs.
