Ray Owen Show

- Report and photos Gaven Dall’Osto

2014 saw another new venue for the Ray Owen Classic Bike Show and Swap. The weather was spectacular and the rolling green hills of the Canungra showgrounds provided a wonderful backdrop to the event. Ray himself took along some of his collection for display and was also rewarded with a trophy as sponsor Beanz Coffee’s choice for his 1913 Williamson outfit. Ray and his extended family always make a huge effort on the day and Ray was to be seen talking to many of his fans, young and old, as he wondered around looking at the bikes on show. This year saw 75 bikes entered in 8 categories. Trophies and prizes were also given for People’s Choice and by each of the sponsors of the event. The owner of sponsor, California Customs also displayed a lovely group of his own 70’s Japanese collection. Shark’s Leathers and Qld. Hydroblast also provided prizes to their choices of the day. There were 700 visitors and surprisingly 300 votes were received for the People’s Choice category. Bike of the Show went to Soapie Sinclair for his immaculate 1914 Indian, 8 valve board track racer. It also won the People’s Choice Trophy.

All in all it was a fantastic day. Well done to the Ray himself, sponsors, exhibitors and the trophy winners. The biggest thanks must be extended to the volunteers largely from the Mount Tambourine area of the HMCCQ.
