Fairfield forever

-

On page 32 OBA 45 there is a photo of Len Atlee and club mate Gordon Gausco (sic) both wearing the Fairfield Motor Cycle Club vest, also Len and Jill at Muswellbrook still wearing the Fairfield vest. The vest was a green background with a black and white checkered sash across the front with the word Fairfield embroidered on the back. I know – I still have mine from the ‘60s. To my knowledge Len was only ever a member of Fairfield club and not Southern District. Please keep up the good work.

As noted on page 30 bottom left, he story was written by Chris Sim, brother of former Australian Champion Geoff Sim. He submitted the draft manuscript to Len Atlee, who requested the notation regarding his membership of Southern Districts MCC, being the first club he joined, but obviously not the only one, as he joined Fairfield when Southern Districts folded. There was certainly no intention to ‘let the memory of a terrific club with terrific blokes fade away’, and I am quite sure the shot of Len and Gordon Guasco in their familiar Fairfield colours serves as a reminder to that famous club. Here’s another one above. – Ed
