The more things change…
Sixty-five years after the innovative Corgi hit the market comes the Moveo and the Boxx two wheeled foldable scooters. Of course rather than a 2-stroke, the modern machines are battery powered however the top speed is the same as the Corgi. And though neither of these modern machines allows something as foolhardy as free-wheeling, the brakes are undoubtedly more reliable. The Moveo (above left & centre) appears the most ergonomically sound and can be folded for storage whilst the Boxx (above right) looks as though it’s already been flattened for recycling. Back in its day the Corgi cost sixty-six quid, petrol was under three bob a gallon and you could travel over 150 miles on a tankful. These days the purchase cost of the Moveo is almost the same as my annual electricity bill before I plug the new toy in. Now if I could just build an effective muffler for my whipper-snipper motor.
