Celebrating Continental Classics
Inspired by our recent special issue, go-ahead custom bike builders MID LIFE CYCLES in Richmond, Victoria recently held their own Continental Classic Day on July 5th, featuring great Italian, German, Spanish and British marques. Mid Life’s Michael Catchpole says, “The theme of the day was prompted by the Old Bikes Australasia special issue Continental Classics and recent restoration work by Mid Life Cycles on a range of bikes, including two Ducati 900SS bevel twins, a Montesa 360 and several classic BMWs in standard and café racer style. The turn-out included Paul Hutchison’s BMW K100 café racer in hot orange, Trevor Lock’s Moto Morini 3½ Sport, a brace of well-modified Ducati Sport-Classics and Mid Life Cycle’s own beautiful and original Ducati Mike Hailwood Replica and a Ducati Pantah-based Special. British bikes were well-represented, with a 1950 Matchless G80S, a pair of Norton Commandos, a BSA Sixties desert racer nearing completion in the Mid Life Cycles workshop, and several classic and modern Triumphs.
