Chequered Flag
who passed away in July aged 86, could be described in many ways; Renaissance man, eclectic collector, mentor and family man but a common theme running through all aspects of Chris’s life was motorcycle enthusiast”. Chris was one of the earliest members of the Vintage and Veteran Motorcycle Club of South Australia, having joined in 1959. He was an active member right up to the time of his passing and spent many hours helping other members come to grips with veteran and vintage motorcycle restoration. His advice and anecdotes were always good natured and full of humour. Chris was a perfectionist and taught himself all manner of skills in order to complete his own restorations, from spray painting and machining to carrying out his own nickel plating. He had a passion for anything of engineering excellence, or novelty, and motorcycles owned by Chris over the years included bikes such as an NSU with forecar, Nimbus and the Kelecom. His favourite bikes were the Brough Superiors and, coupled with a sidecar, these were the family transport for many years as well as being his club run bikes. The club has lost one of its longest active members but Chris will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
