Think pink
In relation to the story on Dot Robinson (OBA 47), Dot and Earl rode around Australia in summer 1973; I managed to get Dot’s 1972 FLH Harley in April 1973 – it was very pink! It had 10,600 miles on it and was in very good condition. The photo (right) shows my sister Marlene on it. Larry Devlin Moe ,Vic 650 BSA Lightning. It was an American model with candy apple red tank and chrome knee inserts. It looked fantastic, sounded even better and we had great times cruising the streets of Adelaide on it. My views of the bike changed though when we rode it to Melbourne one long weekend. The vibrations were just awful. We had to stop on route to tighten up loose nuts and bolts and so the rider could give his wrists a rest from the vibrations. It influenced my views on twin cylinder bikes for many years. After about 6 months of work I purchased my first new bike, a brand new Honda CB500 Four. It was smooth, started at the touch of a button, and things didn’t vibrate off it. It cost me $1250.
