TT comes to FNQ

Road Racing Association of Townsville Rising Sun Motosports Townsville Tourist Trophy

August 29-31, 2014 – Sun City Raceway, Townsville

We had 80 competitors, including 9 sidecars, from Cairns, Proserpine, Brisbane & Victoria amongst our local contingent. Saturday saw practice sessions followed by a qualifying session for each class and during the lunch break that day we had our dedicated volunteer flaggies from Townsville Restored Motorcycle Club grace our track with their beautifully restored machines in demonstration laps. With heats finishing in the late afternoon it was time for another break before the evening races. Saturday night had the 1 Hour Challenge with Le Mans start beginning at 6.15pm with a grid of 18 teams. The Sidecar Invitational began at 7.30pm, again with Le Mans start but also, fancy dress! It really was a fantastic night of racing, for competitors, officials and spectators alike! Sunday saw us racing the last 2 heats of the Championship Sprint races, finishing the day with the Feature Races. With racing over by 2.30pm, we packed up, sat back with a BBQ and proceeded with the Trophy Presentations and the typical banter. The meeting was a great success and our thanks must go to our sponsors and to all the hard working officials. We’d also like to thank our competitors from both near & far, you gave us some sensational racing to watch, made us catch our breath in anticipation & kept us on the edge of our seats. Finally, thanks goes out to our spectators for your continued support. It is both you & our competitors that make the meeting what it is, ‘the best little meeting in Australia’.

A sidenote: The Road Racing Association of Townsville really is a club for all ages and for all the family. We have a Junior Corporate Challenge program where a Junior is loaned a bike for a year to compete. You can be as young as 9 to compete on a Junior Motard & aged 12 for a Road Racing Sachs bike.
