Old Bike Australasia

More on the split…

-

Well said Editorial Jim splitting the historic classes after period 5, (who does go faster than Cameron Donald anyway?) will almost certainly see larger grids, particularly in the earlier periods where costs really don’t match the results. I spoke to a previous Aussie Champ. at Lakeside about his noshow in the class he’d previously been successful, but he said that as no one much in N.S.W. bothered to run the earlier periods, interest had pretty much died! This causes me much anguish, as being on the wrong side of 65, my focus is in periods 2, 3 and 4, the eras of bikes I grew up with, worked on, and still have and enjoy! I also truly believe that the wrinkly spectators vastly outnumber any Jack Miller compatriots, on a ratio of 500 to 1, and would be surprised if period 6 and up could pull the same sized crowds on their own. For the same reasons, I would also not like to see the eligibility years for the Penrite Broadford Bike Bonanza continue their relentless upward creep. I personally don’t know how we can achieve the separation as above but I hope someone who reads this does, and bloody quickly too! Barry Graham Townsville, Qld.
