Bristol’s best on show

National Douglas Rally

To coincide with the centenary celebratio­ns of the 1914 Australian­Grand Prix, the Douglas Owners Club held their 2015 National Rally in Bathurst from November 5-8. 77 examples of the famous Bristol-built motorcycle­s fronted, with proceeding­s getting under way on Wednesday with a run to Mount Panorama.

The following day the scene shifted to the nearby Vale Circuit, site of the 1931-1937 Easter races, followed by a ride to historic Abercrombi­e House. That evening, a mayoral reception was held at the National Motor Racing Museum. Friday’s ride went to Chifley Dam with a colourful display in Bathurst’s King’s Parade Park of Douglas bikes and other machinery that was in town for the Centenary celebratio­ns. The four-day event concluded on Saturday with a ride to Kirkconnel­l for the official Grand Prix celebratio­ns, rides around the 1914 circuit, and a dinner at the Bathurst RSL Club with a number of speakers.
