19th Natureland Club Rally

Old Bike Australasia - - RALLY REPORTS - Report and photos Norma Flint

1-2 November 2014

The 19th Natureland rally, held on the first full weekend of November each year and based at Hat Head on the Mid North Coast proved to be a success with over 140 visiting riders registering to participate. The weather was perfect with clear blue skies making the rides through the quiet roads of the surrounding countryside most enjoyable. An initiative for the Club is the Friday afternoon ride that started in 2013 which has been well attended both years by rally entrants wanting to get off to a flying start. Many people who come to the rally stay for longer than the weekend with some taking advantage of the location to turn it into a week-long holiday. With this in mind, we decided last year to trial a Friday shakedown run to see if there was any interest. We had 50 starters, and this year we counted 70 bikes at our destination at Trial Bay Gaol so I think we can call this a successful addition to the rally. Flagged off from the start by Mrs Sylvia Lewis for the Saturday jaunt were around 170 riders with additional visitors from other local clubs joining in. It was quite a sight as they left the Hat Head Bowling Club and headed off into the countryside. Everyone enjoyed a delicious morning tea prepared by the folk at Eungai Creek Public School before the refreshed riders set off again for the Missabotti Hall where a delicious lunch was waiting and the judging took place. It was a hard job for the judges this year with a variety of beautifully maintained machines to choose from. There were fewer bikes in the older categories but the numbers certainly increased from 1955 onwards. Many of the bikes were “better than new” but all were ridden to the lunch stop to qualify for judging. The presentation dinner on the Saturday evening at the Hat Head Bowling Club was very well attended with rally prize winners adding to the trophy winners as happy campers. Sunday saw a slightly diminished field take to the road on a circular route through Crescent Head riding along the Macleay and Belmore Rivers before ending back at the Hat Head Camping Ground for a farewell brunch.

Next year’s rally is our 20th and will be held on 6 – 8 November.
