Contact email: [email protected] Anyone who was at the Sydney Showground Speedway in the heady days of the ‘sixties and ‘seventies will know the name of Geoff Grocott; sidecar star, and the man who drove the two stroke wedge through the Vincent brigade with his revolutionary Kawasaki triple. Since then, Geoff’s covered a lot of ground as he shifted houses and occupations, and thankfully for us, it’s all recorded in his wonderful book. Naturally the first section deals with the brutal life on the speedways, where he lost several good friends but also became Australian Champion. Then it moves through his time in the motorcycle trade and subsequent occupations, all of which produce their own memorable characters, and Geoff draws some colourful descriptions. I found his memories of growing up in southern Sydney to be extremely interesting and a poignant reminder of the way life used to be with its simple pleasures and slower pace than the rat race of today.
