OW01 – wrong!

-

The article about the Yamaha OW01 (OBA 48) gets a few things wrong in the spec section. Where it mentions 2 inlet valves and 3 exhaust is back the front; 3 in and 2 out. They run 320mm front discs; at least mine have (not 280mm as in the article. 280 were the FZ’s I think). They have a conventional 43mm cartridge fork (not “Inverted” as in the article). The two ring pistons I assume refers to 1 compression and 1 set of oil control as they only have one compression ring to reduce drag. I sold one of mine to a collector in SA a few years back. Kind of regret it but it was just sitting in the back of the shed and being wasted. The other one (not much original stuff on her) is nearly back together after being left in the back of the shed as well (broken starter clutch).

This was one of the Marlboro bikes (I have the fairings) but now has an FZR1000 engine (2kg of the crank etc). It’s running again now and should be roadworthy in a few weeks. Looking forward to giving a few of the newer bikes a surprise! Pete Montgomery Via email
