The Bronze Age

After reading that a number of British motorcycle engines were fitted with a bronze head, I went on a search to find out why. I expect it’s for better performance and lighter weight. So why wasn’t aluminium used – material not available at the time? Seems to be plenty of aluminium available for engine cases etc. Maybe bronze dissipates heat better or its expansions coefficients were thought to be more suited to the
