Century-old James for auction
This veteran James 600cc side valve and sidecar (below) will be up for auction on March 29 as part of the Australian Motoring Festival at Melbourne Showgrounds. Auctioneers Mossgreen say that the James was originally sold in 1915 to Mr Chapman, a butcher in Port Augusta, South Australia. It was ridden for a year or so and then stored until 1958 when It was sold to a Mr Warren Hicks. It was later restored by David Provan, who replaced the rotted wicker sidecar with a metal version. It has been in the current ownership for 25 years and the estimated price range is $45,000-$50,000. Enquiries to Robert Richards: robert.richards@mossgreen.com.au or (03) 9508 8888.
