Twice World 500cc Champion, American Honda works rider Freddie Spencer visited Bathurst on March 20 and announced his support for the proposed second circuit. “Although I have never been here, I am a bit of a history buff so I know about it (Mount Panorama)”, he said. “You can feel the history here. When they are looking at developing a second track, it is important to keep the history very much a part of it. It is that history that will pull people to it.” Spencer was accompanied by former Team Kawasaki Australia rider Murray Sayle and the publicity officer for the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed, Peter MacMillan. He said that Bathurst Mayor Gary Rush’s dream of one day hosting a round of MotoGP or World Superbike at the yet-to-be-built track was definitely feasible. He said he would be happily speak Bathurst’s case and support the dream “in his own little way.
