Ride the Snowy

-

Dedicated tourer Lindsay “Duck” Walker has sent us this letter which will interest those who ply the wonderful Snowy Mountains roads. “After many trips to the Snowy, I’ve finally found the biker friendly place to stay after the transport section getting you from where you live, to “God’s Country.” The Snowy Mountains Motel in Adaminaby is just the ticket. Their “Brumby rooms are $95 for two people per night with an extra $15 per person, including a Continental breakfast or for a bit extra a hot brekky. Dinner is a good home cooked meal for $25 or less and it’s licensed as well. They even offer a crib lunch if you desire. All 45 rooms are on the ground floor and if you’re lucky and arrive before it’s full, they offer a lock up garage where owner Llewellyn keeps his Kwaka. On the way in say hello to his wife Robyn and tell her the Duck sent you. There are a couple of great rides from there, both via Kiandra and the Link Road to Cabramurra and down the “Hill” to Kancoban. The first takes you left on the Alpine Way and back up again through “Dead Horse Gap’ to Thredbo and then back to Adaminaby via Berridale; it’s a beaut ride. The second is down to the Alpine Way again, but turning right this time just before Kancoban, then a few kilometres along on the right onto Tooma Road towards Tumbarumba. You will need to keep your wits about you before reaching Tumbarumba as you turn right again onto Elliott Way which is poorly marked and this takes you back up a very steep hill to Cabramurra.

This bit of road is not for the faint hearted and I have had it on good authority that occasionally an Aprilla has been spotted on this very road at warp speed and its believed by many, myself included, that God himself uses this particular road to vent a little steam.”
