21-22 February 2015 – Lake Canobolas, Orange NSW

This year’s rally at the Canobolas Scout Camp, promoted by the Central West Branch of the CEMCC opposite the picturesque Lake Canobolas attracted 105 entries from as far afield as Tamworth, Griffith and Melbourne. Under clear skies the riders departed for a 170km ride on Saturday morning after an early breakfast and briefing. The morning run took the field through the orchard country of Nashdale and Borenore, then around the outskirts of Orange before a 40km run to Euchareena for morning tea. After a sumptuous spread provided by the local school P&C, entrants travelled via Molong and Manildra to Cudal School for lunch provided by the school P&C and voting. With voting over the riders enjoyed a short but scenic ride back to the camp, travelling via Bowen Park then up and around the foothills of Mount Canobolas before enjoying a rest and catch up prior to the evening meal and festivities. After dinner the various class trophies were presented, followed by the drawing of the raffles and presentation of prizes. This year’s rally also featured a special raffle to assist with fundraising for the longrunning Ronald McDonald House project in Orange. Around $4,000 was raised which was graciously accepted on the night by the executive officer of the project, who also gave an enlightening talk on how the house operates and described some of the unique features that the Orange House will contain. The House has now been officially opened, bringing much needed assistance to many people all over western NSW who are in need of accommodation during hospital treatment in Orange. Sunday again dawned clear as riders set off for an 80km run around the Cadia gold mine south of Orange, before returning to base to pack up for the journey home. Preparations are already under way for next year’s event, and thanks to all who assisted this year and to our generous sponsors.
