Memorial Trophy
The Keith Campbell
Trevor Henderson, president of the Historic Motorcycle Racing Register of SA, has a query. “Do any readers know the whereabouts of the Keith Campbell Memorial Trophy, which was contested in the early days of Historic Racing and won by our editor, Jim, in, I believe, 1977 and 1978. I was asked at the recent “Seniors” Road Race at Macnamara Park, Mount Gambier to look into an award to honour Australia’s first Road Racing World Champion. A week later, I stumbled across an article torn from Two Wheels reporting on a very wet Historic Meeting at Oran Park in 1978 where Jim Scaysbrook (7R AJS) won the Keith Campbell trophy from the late Eric Debenham. He had also won it the previous year at a scorching hot Amaroo Park from no less than Mike Hailwood, it being run then as an unlimited capacity race. I would not want to create a new trophy whilst the original is still in existence, so anyone with any info can contact me via email on trevbul@bigpond.com or phone at (08) 8384 5284.
