Easy for Dib

- Report Jim Scaysbrook Photos Robin Lewis

One week after the Penrite Broadford Bonanza, the State Motorcycling Complex once again echoed to the sounds of classics for the state titles. Riding the T-Rex Racing Harris Honda 1100, Michael Dibb hardly raised a sweat to take out all four races in the Unlimited Forgotten Era title, although he got to within 0.161 of his own lap record in the final encounter. A healthy turn out of early models fronted for the Vintage and Class C classes, taken out by Peter Birthisel (Indian) and Peter Hehir (Matchless) respectively. Following on from his impressive performance at the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed, Jonathon Houston and his neat 1962 Motobi were untouchable in the Classic 250, winning all four races, while Keith Campbell did likewise in the Classic 350. Campbell had a great weekend on his Hondas, also taking out the Classic 500 from the Matchless G50s of Darren Trotter and Bob Rosenthal. Mick Maloney also made a clean sweep of the Forgotten Era 250, as did Lachlan Hill in the Forgotten Era 500.

A huge Sidecar entry saw big fields in all classes with honours going to Geoff Dodds/Zane Dodds (Classic 650cc), Garth Francis/Paul Kenny (Classic Unlimited), Ray Smith/Amanda Smith (Post Classic 836cc), John Clancy/ Chrissie Clancy (Post Classic Unlimited), Ian Gardner/ Kevin Burns (Fogotten Era) and Terry Goldie/Jamie Crass (Formula 2). In addition to the championship classes, two special races were held. The Harold Carter Memorial for the Fastest 30 solos was taken out by Garth Francis on his Norton Atlas, while the Richard Frank Memorial Sidecar Handicap went to William Hargraves/Annette Treggar (Triumph Thunderbird).
