Although modern digital photograph­y produces amazing results, the clarity of these early shots is superb and captures not just the action, but the fashions of the day. Many of the shots are taken in the pits, before and after races and during practice, with early stars like Stanley Woods, Jimmy Simpson, Jimmy Guthrie, Freddie Frith and Bob Foster, along with the fascinatin­g ‘thirties machinery including the Velocette Roarer and the Supercharg­ed V4 AJS. The book is listed as Volume 1, so let’s hope subsequent editions pay more attention to proof reading, as there are several mis-matched photos and captions in this one. spots to capture the action, and many of these shots reflect his constant quest to produce new and different angles.
