DIY Speedway

When we were kids we were fans of speedway and went whenever we could, mostly to the Sydney Showground, sometimes by public transport and sometimes in the boot of a car to save money to buy some chips and drinks. As I got older and with an after-school job I bought my first bike, a 350cc AJS. You could buy old bikes fairly cheaply and the others had an ex-army M20 BSA, a Panther, Villiers and a Velo. We found a clearing in the bush at Menai where they erected high voltage towers which was fairly remote then and people had dumped old cars and parts thereof, one of which was a car chassis with the cross members which we towed around
