Pulls the plug
Ex-pat Aussie Chad Reed has closed the doors on his US-based motocross team, TwoTwo Motorsports. In 2011, the year he formed the team, Reed was worth a reported US$38 million, and after buying bikes from Honda in the first season, the factory stepped in with full works support in 2012 and 2013. Reed was not only team owner and manager but its sole rider, and the stress of the multiple roles told with increasing, and painful, race crashes. The mounting injury toll was one factor in Reed pulling the plug, but the financial cost, reportedly several million dollars in recent years, was undoubtedly another. Reed himself has not ruled out continuing racing, but not with his own team. “TwoTwo Motorsports was a dream team,” Reed said. “I thought it was my future, but now I know it was just a chapter. I’m not ready to retire.”
