More grunt for MT-07

-

When testing the then-new 655cc Yamaha MT-07 in OBA 47, I remarked, “In creating a motorcycle specifically for the booming LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme), Yamaha has also produced a remarkably versatile 650 twin.” Since then, the MT-07 has been an outstanding success in the vital learner market, but Yamaha has also listened to the more experienced riders and produced an enlarged 689cc MT-07HO (High Output) version which pumps out 74.8PS @ 9,000 rpm with 68.0Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, compared to the LAMS model’s 52.1PS/57.5Nm. The HO is also 3 kg lighter at 179kg, due to the omission of the ABS on the LAMS model. At $9999.00, the MT-07HO comes in Race Blue and carries a 24 months, unlimited km parts and labour warranty.
