CEMCC NSW 15th Debenham Winter Tour
June 13/14, 2015 – Moss Vale NSW
Held in perfect mild winter weather, the annual Debenham Rally, which caters for Veteran & Vintage up to 1930, Post Vintage up to 1945 with a maximum 500 cc, up to 250cc Lightweight over 30 years old, and Outfits up to 1959, drew a full compliment of 60 entries. It was a fitting tribute to the rally Patron Eric Debenham, who passed away just weeks before the event. Eric’s 1938 500cc MSS Velocette was ridden in the rally by its new owner Darren Buckley. Merle and Allan Graham once again had things perfectly organised, with marshals placed strategically and a morning tea stop at Nepean Dam. The Veterans were well represented by Ian Richardson’s 1915 Peerless, Kevin Boardman’s 1914 Douglas and several others that are approaching their centenary, but as usual it was the more modern Lightweights, 250s, 200s and 125s that dominated by sheer weight of numbers. Leaving the Moss Vale Caravan Park, the route followed the Old Hume Highway to the morning tea stop at Yerrinbool, then back to Mittagong for lunch at the RSL Club. Then it was another 30 km back to Moss Vale via the Wombeyan Caves Road, where many freshened up for dinner at the Moss Vale Services Club.
The rally is a great social event with wonderful country roads that are well suited to the older and less powerful bikes, and will be on again in 2016 over the weekend of 11-12 June.
