Still going strong

Your article on the 24 Hour Races at Mount Druitt (OBA 56) brought back forgotten memories. In 1955 Capitol Motors entered a Merrylands MCC team of Bob Cox (manager), Joe Bratby, Ron Williams and myself (riders) and Frank Boldi (pit crew) on a 500cc Triumph. We started well and actually built up a fair lead. Then night fell. The nearest to riding fast at night for me was racing my mates (Joe included) from the Sunday night concerts at Eden Park to Parramatta with Constable Rutledge in hot pursuit. It was scary. Joe pulled in, throwing up, and Ron took over, holding his own, and my lap times fell like buggery. Joe perked up and went out again but the motor expired and we were finished. I think I was more relieved than disappointed. I retired in 2000 after 50 years of racing. The theme of Bathurst Revival at the 2015 Broadford Bonanza excited me as I’d had two second places at Bathurst, so Fred Boyd and I took my 1938 Norton International along and had some great riding. I hope to do it again. Keith Jones Avoca Beach, NSW
