John Carter and the Triton

I was saddened to read of the loss of John Carter in OBA 57; he was such a great person with a wealth of racing knowledge and anecdotes. I first met John when John Warrian put me in touch with him after I purchased the ex- Curley Triton in 1989; he wrote me a fantastic letter with as many details as he could remember, which was pretty much everything I needed to know to keep racing the bike. He also put me in touch with Jeff Curley, who used to call in to my shop in Goondiwindi when he was travelling to Queensland for holidays and to see John. In later years John moved to Queensland and started to come out to our historic meetings at Stanthorpe and later on Lakeside when we finally got back there to race. It was always good to look up from the bike and see John there, will miss him and his sage advice.

Over the years have tried to keep the Triton the same. I still even run the back-to-back T110 8 inch brakes, same forks, tank, oil tank, seat, frame, guards. The up-pipes had to go when noise meters at Lakeside and Eastern Creek had my number in
