DOUG SHERLOCK was born 4th May 1942 and died 29th February 2016. He passed away peacefully after a long illness in Yarrawonga. Doug became involved in road racing in the late fifties, riding a 500 Matchless at his first meeting at Darley (Vic). After Ken Rumble tutored him at Phillip Island, he scored his first race win and was promoted to “B” Grade for the next meeting. He raced many bikes which included a 7R AJS, 250 Triumph, 650 Triumph, 250 Suzuki, 250 Honda, 250 Cotton and Manx Nortons with some success. He rode many circuits; Bathurst, Mallala, Hume Weir, Victoria Park (Ballarat), Mt. Gambier, Winton, Calder, Sandown and Amaroo Park as well as anything between traffic signals in his early days. He had considerable success riding the 250 Triumph and raised many eyebrows along the way in the classic scene.

As an Industrial Electrician, he served his apprenticeship with the Victorian Railways and was always technically interested in anything that came his way, pattern making, steam powered engines and clock movements to name just a few. Later in life Doug enjoyed Rallying his first road bike, a 1950 AJS Twin at events such as the Harold Parsons and Jampot rallies. He still had the flair to overtake in the rough to pass slower riders. Doug was a life member of the East Malvern Motorcycle Club and will be missed by many. He leaves wife Rae, children David and Brenda and three granddaughters.
