Gloucester Motorcycle Expo

-

The Gloucester Lions and Rotary Clubs conducted the Expo over the weekend of 31st April/1st May at the Gloucester Showground. This annual event has been going for several years now and is gathering more and more momentum. A Show and Shine is run by the Ulysses and then there are Trade Displays as well as a motorcycle only Swap Meet. However a major attraction is the motocross which is conducted by Heaven Vintage Moto Cross club. This drew some 125 entries for machines ranging from 125 to 500cc up to 1982 models. One well known rider from past years who competed was Geoff Ballard on a 490 cc Maico and had a number of wins over the weekend. Also present was Peter Watson from Coffs Harbour who now owns the ex-Roy East Rickman Matchless Metisse. Participants began arriving on Friday and Saturday, enjoying good weather before heavy rain commenced Sunday morning and put a real damper on the event. Proceeds for this event are used to provide more signage for motorcyclist on the Thunderbolts Way which is the road leading from Gloucester to Walcha as well written material to be published and provided for off road dirt riders in this area. Some monies also go to the Westpac Helicopter Service, and a local Men’s Shed. Also financial assistance is being provided to Mitch Cluff from Kurri Kurri to compete in Poland in the Junior 250cc Speedway Series. This event next year will be conducted on 6th and 7th May.
