Mail run gets through

New Zealand Mail Run

19 March, 2016 – Taupo NZ

For the 27th running of the Mail Run, 51 bikes met the criteria of girder forks or a sprung seat with either rigid or plunger rear ends. This resulted in a fine display of motorcycling history for the public and riders alike to inspect at the start point of the Rally at the Marina in Taupo. Taupo to Napier is 142km and separated by a formidable range of hills, giving a good test of man and machine. All participants made the journey without any mechanical glitches although two received punctures. Our arrival in Napier in warm and clear conditions soon drew a crowd as the bikes rolled in and put on a display opposite the Sound Shell. Refreshments were had, stories were told before riders and their machines left to prepare for the evening meal and prize giving held once again at the RSA who put on a very satisfying meal enjoyed by all who attended. This year’s top bike was a very smart looking GTP Velocette owned by Peter Hargroves who received the “Tin Man Trophy”. The quality and standard of the bikes is a credit to all participants. We look forward to seeing them and many more just like them, at next year’s 28th Mail Run.
