New look at Symmons Plains
The Australian Historic Road Racing Championships at Symmons Plains, near Launceston, will enjoy much upgraded facilities when the prestigious event takes place in November. The work is as a result of a $2 million government grant to lift safety and presentation standards at the circuit. Gravel traps have been re-laid to MA standards and a kilometre of earth-filled tyre walls on the inside of the circuit have been replaced and in many cases moved further back from the circuit. There is also a new medical centre and a renovated control tower, and the pit and paddock areas have been freshly sealed with a two-coat surface. Organising secretary Rob Scott says he has received many enquiries from prospective competitors, including from former triple Australian Superbike Champion Shawn Giles. Local dealer Scott’s Motorcycles from Lagana has been named as a major sponsor, with support from Kawasaki Motorcycles and Kawasaki Motor Finance. We’ll bring you more news next issue.
