Aussies at the Isle of Man

-

South Australian David Johnson achieved the best result for a Norton at the TT since the marque’s halcyon days by finishing seventh in the Superbike TT, with a best lap of 130.067 mph. Unfortunately he took a tumble in the later Senior TT, but was thankfully unhurt. Meanwhile the debut sidecar pairing of Mick Alton and Chrissey Clancy covered themselves in glory by finishing 13th in the first Sidecar TT race, recording the bestever newcomer lap of 108.008 mph. Their second outing later in the week saw the start delayed because of low lying sea mist, and they come home a respectable 20th at an average of 104.511 mph. Unfortunately that race was marred by the death of Dwight Beare, 27, originally from Melbourne, who crashed at Rhencullen.
