Beach Party!

-

The famous races held at Sellicks Beach are to be revived in 2017, to take place on February 18th and 19th. The annual races began in 1913 and finished with the 1953. Re-enactment events were held in 1986 and 1992, and a group of enthusiasts have been working hard for more than two years to get the approvals for the 2017 event. Entry forms and regulations will be announced soon with entries and ticket sales closing this year, so people are encouraged to get on to it as soon as they are released. Spokesman Greg Summerton says, “I believe, but am not 100% certain, the rules for the event will be along the lines for Historic Road Racing for machines produced before December 31st 1962. Road type tyres only will be permitted, no knobs. I believe the required attire will be as for road racing, ie leathers, boots, gloves and helmets as for historic road racing events. Watch the Levis MCC facebook page or website for details and ticket sales as none will be available at the gates on the day, they will be all pre-sold so as to limit the numbers attending. Around 40,000 attended the 1986 event and 30,000 the 1992 event, but the encroachment of suburbia has meant that such numbers cannot possibly be accommodated at next February’s event so a limited number of tickets will only be available from one of the ticket sales agencies.” Here are the contacts, and for other enquiries contact Greg Summerton on (08) 82639018 or 0422 580642 www.facebook.com/LevisMcc/?fref=ts www.levismcc.asn.au/
