A Matchless moment
From Barry Taylor in Brisbane comes this little gem: This is the Matchless G12 CSR that Markwell Brothers gave to Tony Edwards to race at Lakeside in 1961 I believe. To say he stunned a lot of racers on the day would have been an understatement. He set lap records and was just about unbeatable on the day. Reg Clough bought it off Markwell’s and had it for many years. Willy Knight now owns the motorcycle and I think it only has 8,000 odd miles on it. Johnny Fooks, the boxer, had a G12 CSR in the day, when having the fastest bike around town was a big deal. No Bonneville, BSA Rocket or Norton beat Fooks for quite some time.
